Examples of Existing Outreach Strategies

  • Leverage existing systems, services, and social settings: connect with state and local public and private agencies and organizations that routinely interface with families who will have newly eligible children. A few examples include but are not limited to:
    • Schools
    • Clinics
    • WIC centers
    • Organizations that assist with Cal Fresh enrollment
    • After-school programs
    • Family resource centers
    • Child care centers
    • Parks and recreation programs
    • Public libraries
    • Faith-based institutions
  • Develop on-site enrollment and education events at these settings (one time and ongoing). Have informational/enrollment booths, conduct presentations and/or create a referral process.
  • Share consumer friendly materials that promote the program and your contact information. Be especially sure to share information that shows the program is safe and private.
  • It may be necessary to create materials in languages that are not available from the state or other sources.
  • If possible, develop relationships with local media, especially ethnic media. Share information about the program and who to contact for assistance.
